Acura is known for fine luxury vehicles, but the model that most pushed the limits of performance engineering was the NSX. The NSX was the Acura company’s GT sports car for a total of 15 years starting in 1990. Let’s take a look back at the NSX generations through the years:
In 1990, Honda/Acura began production on the high-end sports car, the NSX. Its original concept was a track-style inspired race-coupe that could also fit the needs of everyday driving. When production began, the NSX stood only five inches taller than the legendary Ford GT40 race car and it boasted a 0-60 mph time of 5.2 seconds. This was incredibly fast for the time period, and a similar roadster from the era, the Ferrari 348, recorded a 0-60 mph time 5.4 seconds for around triple the price.
After production was successful for the first two years of the automobile, the designers at Honda/Acura decided that offering a more race-worthy NSX for road-racing enthusiasts would be beneficial and drew up the NSX-R. The R stood for race, and the alterations made were all in the form of weight reduction. By slimming down the already lightweight NSX, the R version would achieve better balance, handling, and acceleration. Seats were removed and upgraded to lightweight carbon-fiber material, and non-essential electronics aren’t available in order to save weight.
The second generation of NSX, or the JDM series, was released in 2002 and it again featured lightweight components for a more nimble and agile NSX. However, few of these roadsters sold in the U.S. and most of the sales were concentrated in Japan. In 2005 the Honda Company discontinued manufacture of the NSX.

An Acura is an excellent alternative to the high-priced European luxury cars in its class for a variety of reasons. Let’s take a look at four specific reasons why you should purchase an Acura for your next luxury automobile:
- Reliability
Acura drivers love their cars because they stay in their garage more often than the mechanic’s. When you pay for a European import you pay for the refined luxury features that you can find in an Acura but don’t get the added benefit of solid and reliable construction. At Acura, designers build cars to last, which means you won’t be plagued by maintenance issues. - Affordability
Getting behind the wheel of a new Acura has never been more affordable, and luxurious features at a low price are just a few of the benefits an owner can expect. The new TL comes in a variety of packages, and it has all-wheel drive capability. For just over 35,000, the TL is a steal compared to its competitors. - Safety
Safety is the main concern of most drivers in the market for a new vehicle, and an Acura is a perfect option for someone looking for safe family vehicles. With a variety of safety features like advanced all-wheel drive stability and a collision mitigation braking system, Acura models like the RL and TSX can help keep you out of harm’s way. - Luxury
One of the best aspects of an Acura is its luxury features. When you get into the driver’s seat of a new Acura, you can expect an easy and simple driving experience made possible by intuitive navigation systems and ergonomic on-board computer controls. Don’t settle for anything less when looking for a luxury automobile—buy an Acura.
